1. Bharta: Rama brother and son of Dashartha

Plot
- Bharta learns of his fathers death and brothers exile, he wants to go find Rama and bring him back, is angry with his mother for exiling Rama
-Bharta performs his fathers funeral but is angry and confused with him about what happened before his death, mourned for 10 days
-Bharta finds Rama and offers him the throne but Rama is against it, saying it was not what the father wanted
- Jabali, the brahmanic counselor of Dasharatha, all encourage rama to take the throne and not honor to the dead father
-Rama denies and said he would not be an honorable and trusted man if he went against fathers wishes
-Bharta wants to remain in the jungle with Rama to serve the sentence
-Rama gives a pair of sandals as his place on the throne and Bharta is to guard it
