Week 2 Story : The Mighty Monkey

Image
A long time ago in a land far far away... was a pond. But not just any pond. This was the pond of miracles. A pond where the ordinary was not ordinary and everything that seemed to be wasn't. The animals thought to have the most power in the Kingdom, actually had the least. The animals said to have the least amount of power, somehow had the most. And so it was, a monkey, George, was the most mighty of them all. It wasn't a strength that made him most mighty, but his brain. He was said to be the wisest animal in all the land. Other animals resented him for this, wishing they too could have the levels of wisdom that George had. So, one night a crocodile, Chad, thought just how much he wished to take down George so he no longer was so important and legendary. He came up with an idea, he would be an imposter. He would pretend to need George's wisdom and try to ask him a question, but when George was not paying attention, he would swallow him whole! So, Chad came to the pond k

Week 2 Reading Overview

Image
I have chosen to buy and read the PDE Ramayana online. I chose this one over the other because I like how it has an audio version to go along with it. I like to listen to things while I drive to work and while I tan so it gives me something to do while also getting homework done. Also, I think the illustrations will be better for me to stay interested in. http://ackguide.blogspot.com/2015/07/guide-krishna-and-rukmini.html I have chosen this first one because I am a sucker for love stories. I like the idea of fighting for love so the theme seemed interesting to me. Big Nicholas Sparks girl. http://ackguide.blogspot.com/2015/07/guide-krishna-and-false-vasudeva.html The next one I chose was also because of the plot. It seems interesting how they mention something supernatural but do not go into much detail. After reading that I seemed interested to see how Sudakshina turns out after his attempt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2g1GsyFyzo&list=PLrWYQjLLbXcie5DuhgxacocxvQp_

Time Strategies

Image
I feel like time management is going to be essential in this class. The first week I struggled a lot juggling os many assignments but I think the schedule will definitely help and I plan on working ahead. The Psychology of Checklist article was really helpful. I have always loved checklists but I liked how their checklist was organized. SMART, Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound. These parameters help choose tasks that won't overwhelm me, while also awarding my dopamine with completion. https://blog.trello.com/the-psychology-of-checklists-why-setting-small-goals-motivates-us-to-accomplish-bigger-things?utm_source=blog&utm_medium=linkedin&utm_campaign=checklists Eat The Frig First Thing in the Morning was an interesting concept I have never heard of before. I don't necessarily see myself using this strategy but it makes sense to get something out of the way in order to be more productive and energized for the rest of the day. I just perso

Technology Thoughts

Image
I always considered myself pretty tech-savvy, but in college, I have come to realize that might not be the case.  I am familiar with some online tools but I have never written blogs before so that is definitely new. I have decided to add a bookmark for blogger in order to go there faster and it is really helpful. In all y online classes before this one, everything was typically through Canvas so this class is different, however, I like the point of were probably never going to use canvas after college so it makes sense to learn outside of Canvas. Assignments Thoughts

Image
The layout of the class seems pretty nice, I like being able to make my own schedule as needed which is different. The storytelling assignment is intriguing in a good and bad way to me, I have not written or been in an English class in two years so it might be challenging. For extra credit, I think I will really enjoy the stuff pertaining to the growth mindset. I found that topic very interesting and intriguing. Photo by  Photo by  David Clode  on  Unsplash

Growth Mindset Thoughts

Image
I had never been familiar before with the Ted talk and Growth Mindset but I really enjoyed it. it reminds me of a lot of the thoughts my dad has always shared with me as a basketball coach. He always taught me to be looking for growth. I think the experiments they did were proven how helpful it can be to excel and be shown progress over time instead of the instant reward with the math game. I think it can be so beneficial for people to have an open mindset and see themselves as a work in progress. This class is definitely a challenge for me because I am not super familiar with the topics but I think this gave me a new perspective. I really enjoyed it.    Funny Cat meme. Introduction to Payton Hall

Image
Hello, my name is Payton hall! I am currently a Junior here at OU and I am studying Accounting. People are sometimes shocked I have chosen public accounting as a career but I have a natural talent for it so I am excited to keep pursuing it. I have an internship already lined up in Dallas next year with Grant Thorton so I am very excited about that. I am from Texas even though I was originally born in California. I have lived in Arlington ever since I was super young and grew up there. I have 2 sisters that I am close with, as well as my mom and dad. And best of all my labrador retriever, Max.  Personal photo of my dog (December 2019) Some of my hobbies include binge-watching Netflix... some of my favorite shows past and present are Grey's Anatomy, This is Us, Riverdale, and Criminal Minds. I enjoy the girly romantic comedy shows like Friends and Gossip Girl but also love true crime and things like Law & Order SVU. Another hobby of mine is my YouTube channel I recently

StoryBook Favorites

Image
Paige's Storybook https://sites.google.com/view/paiges-storybook/introduction?authuser=0 I found this storybook to be interesting because of the topic it covered. I love food so naturally, I was drawn to this topic. I really like her introduction specifically. She goes into detail about three different foods and a short story to go along with them. She gives enough detail to be interesting but not too much to give the story away. I also really like the layout chose. She has a tab to click on for every part of her storybook. Introduction and the three different stories each labeled so it wasn't confusing to read each one individually. Karma https://sites.google.com/view/goodplacekarma/home This next storybook originally caught my eye because of the title. Karma is a word you hear often but not often do people know what it means so I wanted to read what they said about it. I like the home page because it included a video and picture to catch the reader's intention.

My Most Recent Favorite Place

Image
After recently traveling to Cozumel, it quickly became one of my favorite places I have been. The water was unreal and the food was amazing!! I got to spend hours on a private beach that was even more beautiful not crowded with people, I was able to just relax and enjoy nature. Personal photo in Cozumel, Mexico  (photo from January 2020)
