Microfiction: The Roomates

Image
It is crazy to think about everything that happened this semester. I never thought I would not be talking to my own roommate. Grace had been talking about me behind my back and I found out last week. I haven't talked to her since, even though she has tried. I could not believe she thinks that I am stealing her friends from her when we are all best friends. I enjoy writing short microfictions that leave the reader to decide what they think.

Microfiction: The Birthday

Image
I looked into the mirror and couldn't believe the day was finally here. I had waited for this day for so long. As I sat down at my vanity, I was excited beyond words to get ready for tonight. I put my laptop on my bed and played my birthday playlist. I did my makeup and put on the outfit I had picked out. Now time for my twenty-first birthday party. Makeup Vanity,  Photo by  Jamie Street  on  Unsplash Author's Note: I wrote a two-sentence story and a dribble. Both are related to my upcoming birthday but it is interesting because you would not know what the special day was from just the two sentences but the dribble has a little more detail but still vague.

Microfiction: The Conversation

Image
They talked about getting a divorce. I sat at the top of the stairs and listened to them talking downstairs. I heard my dad mention a divorce. A White Staircase,  Photo by  Micah Carlson  on  Unsplash Author's Note: I thought the six-word story and two-sentence microfiction options would be fun because they are both so short and leaves a lot to the reader's imagination. These are very short so they could mean a lot of things but the concept is a girl overhearing her parents talk about getting a divorce.

Microfiction: Two Mysterious Encounters

Image
My heart began to race as I heard the sound of his truck pull up. It was a familiar sound, I had heard it many times before, but this time it felt different. I walked toward the window and peeked out quickly. The sight of him still gives me butterflies. I was so nervous to see him again. But I feel like I will still love him just as much now as I did then. A Dark Window,  Photo by  Josh Nuttall  on  Unsplash Authors Note: I thought it would be so fun to write the same encounter but two different lengths. They both have so much mystery but the Dribble gives just a hint more of detail. Both are obviously about a girl seeing a guy again, but the reader has no back story so it is up to them to come up with ideas for the pair.

Microfiction: Two Tales of Terror

My eyes open instantly. Was that something I heard in the hallway... footsteps? Is this just a dream? I hear them again, but this time closer to my door. What will I do? Do I close my eyes and pretend to be asleep or prepare for what might come next. I look down the hall toward her door and hope my steps don't wake her up. I start to walk again. I reach her door. Authors Note: I wrote these stories with an idea of doing 2 sentence horror, but not exactly. I thought it was a cool idea and thought I would try it. I wrote the same story but from two different first-person points of view. I made the first one longer, 50 words in order to make it a dribble and something a bit more than just a 2 sentence story. Then made the second one a version of hint fiction. A Dark Hallway,  Photo by  Charles  on  Unsplash
